Center for Information Assurance
The Center for Information Assurance was formed on January 14, 2009. The mission of the center shall be to promote education and research in information assurance, computer security, and related fields at The University of Texas at El Paso (see official letter).
Our Information Assurance courseware was certified as mapping 100% to the Committee on National Security Systems (CNSS) National Standards 4011 and 4013E. We received the official CNSS certificate in June 2009 at the 13th Colloquium for Information Systems Security Education (CISSE). The certification is valid June 2009 to June 2014.
The goal of the Information Assurance Courseware Evaluation (IACE) Program is to expand the use of national standards in information assurance education and training throughout the nation. This program operates under the National Security Agency's (NSA) information assurance outreach program, and in particular under the National IA Education and Training Program (NIETP).

- CS 4339 Secure Web-Based Systems

- CS 4375 Theory of Operating Systems
- CS 4377 Cyber-Security for Critical Op. Tech.
- CS 4379 Software Reverse Engineering
- STAT 3320 Probability and Statistics for CS
This means that we offer the certificate of completion to those taking all courses in the set.
Having met the criteria for measuring the depth and maturity of established programs in the field of information assurance, UTEP is now officially designated by the National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education (CAEIAE) for Academic Years 2010-2015. We received the official certificate in June 2010 at the 14th Colloquium for Information Systems Security Education (CISSE). An institution must meet stringent criteria to obtain this designation. As of 2009, throughout the United States, 106 institutions had this designation. This program operates under the National Security Agency's (NSA) information assurance outreach program, and in particular under the National IA Education and Training Program (NIETP).

The center builds on existing strengths in information assurance, including department faculty who teach courses and conduct research in information assurance and the recent certification of our education program in information assurance.
